did you click the "enter the MPlayer homepage while it's still available" link at the bottom?

MPlayer may not last long if the corporate types have thier way, i suggest people download the player, some fonts & skins and the codec package and save them...

yeah, but there is no information there about the patens issues.

The patents haven't actually been introduced yet, but are still being debated by the EU.
