Is it safe to put Trixbox on public IP?

Hi! I was able to setup trixbox and some of its features. Now, I was wondering if the setup is intended for the static IP or I need to position it on the LAN and do some port forwarding. I also understand that VOIP has problem with NAT. Can someone explain to me the things I need to consider on implementing this Trixbox VOIP server. Another thing, is it possible for video conferencing in Trixbox. I was only able to setup trixbox for voice calls and it works great.

I also heard about the Cain which captures calls. How can I prevent it? What are the safety measures that I need to implement to make Trixbox works smoothly and without complications while not sacrificing safety?

Congrats.

Positioning shouldn't matter: what should is limiting public exposure to services on the box since you'll be running AMP, a CRM, phpMyAdmin, SSH, Bluetooth and we're not even talking about the stuff you need for BPXing and such. You might find keeping it on the LAN and mapping the 4569, 5004-5082 and 10001-20000 UDP ports / ranges easier / better managable and then again you might not: check out Newbie’s Guide to TrixBox 1.0 and FreePBX 2.1.1, Part I.
