installing xmms on xandros

I'm trying to install xmms on xandros linux. I first tried to install the rpm package for it, but it said something about using alien for debian systems, so I downloaded the debian package of xmms and tried using alien to install it. it gave me a missing library error. so I tried installing the library, said it was missing x11-common, so I tried installing that. it said it conflicts with xorg-common and wouldn't install it. I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong from the start. what am I doing wrong? how can I install xmms? I would also like to install wine next.

I can't get anything to work with the rpm command. :-( it keeps saying:
rpm: To install rpm Packages on Debian systems, use alien. See README.Debian.
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - No suck file or directory (2)

I can't figure out how to install rpm's or how to uninstall a package.

xandros should have its own tools for installing packages from its repositories. I think its calle xandrows networks or something, it will be in the menus. UUse that to install xmms, search for xmms in it and it will have an install thing.

Xandros uses deb packages, you only wan to use alien to convert and rpm package to a deb package you wont have any need for that though if you stick to using the tool xandros has provided for installing software.

the xandros networks software often doesn't have the packages I'm looking for. what do I do to install something I can't find in there?
