Here it is
$cat /apt/sources.list | grep -v '^#'

deb file:/root karmic-main/
deb-src file:/root karmic-main/
deb file:/root karmic-restricted/
deb-src file:/root karmic-restricted/
deb file:/root karmic-multiverse/
deb-src file:/root karmic-multiverse/
deb file:/root karmic-universe/
deb-src file:/root karmic-universe/

What I do is
get Packages.gz from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dis...se/binary-i386
get Sources.gz from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dis...niverse/source

and save them in corresponding folders /root/karmic-main,/root/karmic-multiverse,/root/karmic-restricted,/root/karmic-universe
Then run 'apt-get update' so all packages from karmic can be read by apt.

would you mind reverting to the standard system for ubuntu for the sake of this thread, it would concievably make it easier for us to debug the issue

How can I get repository of ubuntu version > 8.04 ?

As i have edited my previous post . I repeat if you did not notice how do we get repository for ubuntu 9.04 in ubuntu 8.04 ?

you change all instances of hardy in your sources.list file to jaunty

Sorry for my late reply.
i replaced all 'hardy' in /etc/apt/sources.list by 'jaunty' ( also uncommented lines for universe ) then
