Question installing libstdc++-3.4.6-11.i386.rpm on RHEL4 machine

Hi,

I have downloaded an rpm for libstdc++, libstdc++-3.4.6-11.i386.rpm, from centOS, http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/.
On trying to install it, it says unlocatable package libstdc++, required by libstdc++-devel.

How is it that the very package i'm trying to install is dependent on itself.
On trying to locate the package the result is as below.

# rpm -q libstdc++
# libstdc++-3.4.3-9.EL4

Kindly provide a way to install this.

You're trying to install a different version. You didn't post the exact output (like you should have), but I'm willing to bet that it's actually complaining that libstdc++-devel 3.4.3 depends on libstdc++ 3.4.3. You're installing libstdc++ 3.4.6 so you are breaking that dependency. Download libstdc++-devel from the same link and try installing both packages at once.
