Installing hardware drivers - Mandrake 10.1

Ok... my first post here was answered quickly and correctly, so I'll try a new one. I have an Nvidia GeForce 6600 in my machine. When I go to the Nvidia site, it allows me to download drivers for it. I then follow the instructions on how to install the drivers (sh *driver name here*). The installation starts, but the says something about a CC in the kernel not being there or not being correct. My question is, what does this mean and how can I correct it?

I do have a second part to this question as well, but its not really related to the above one. How do I install a newer, updated version of KDE? Someone told me that I should since there is probably a new one out from what I had on the install CDs, but I've never done it before.

Thanks for the help!

First of all when you are quoting an error message please be specific, it hard go now what is going on when we don't have the details.
As far as updating KDE goes you may want to wait on that, there are software dependancies that may cause more problems than they fixed. I'm not saying it can't be done, just be warned that if it's not broken you may not want to goof with it.
