Ok, found gftp. Would be where you thought it would be, sorry didnt see it.

Now, getting the hang of this apt-get thing. I also went ahead and installed

apt-get install xvncviewer
apt-get install vncserver
apt-get install synaptic

they all went ok.

But now I cant find those...

Where would I look?

Try searching for it using kappfinder (Kmenu -> Settings -> Menu Updating Tool) or by just entering "gftp" in a terminal emulator.

found gftp and synaptic.

When I fire up xvncviewer, I get a box asking for IP address, which I enter. But instead of asking fior the pw it resets itself...

new thread for that one?

It didn't work when you tried to install pango because you (for some reason) downloaded glib 2.5.7 and not the latest (2.6.2) which is used by pango 1.8...

...it pays to get the latest version of any library...
