Installing GAIM 0.74 on RH 9

Hi, Im trying to install GAIM 0.74 on my linux machine, RH 9 comes with an inbuilt one which is infortunately outdated (0.59). Im very new at linux. I went to the sourceforget website in order to download and updated version, but unfortunately there are so many files to download and its a bit confusing, further more I cant find a guide of what I need and the install process. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks very much

The best way is to upgrade your GAIM with the "apt-rpm" utils (the upgraded version works fine, even with MSN protocol support).
So have a look at "apt-rpm apt-get for redhat" under google, and you'll find the needed information for installing and configuring apt-get. Then, upgrade your hole system with "# apt-get dist-upgrade".

apt-get is such a nice tool that you'd be missing it.

It works absolutly fine, cheers mate... But, is there a way of choosing only certains packages, coz I wanst given that option, I mean its a great thing to get all the latest updates, but I think it will be best to give the user the oprtunity to select which packages to intstall rather than the whole thing, may be its me not knowing how to do it coz i wasnt given that option during my install process, so if any knows how to do it, plz let me know.... Thanks

With the "apt-get dist-upgrade", you only upgrade installed packages.
You can upgrade a given package with "apt-get upgrade package", and install
a package with "apt-get install package".
Just have a look at "man apt-get", and "man apt-cache". apt-cache is useful to search the packages database.
