The first mistake you made was installing fedora core 7. it is now obsolete, and getting more useless my the day. pick a NEW distro, e.g. FC12. and start again. In reality you could certainly obtain the gcc packages from your installation media or from yum (not sure if the default repo's will still work becuase of age, but they're here - http://archive.kernel.org/fedora-arc...edora/i386/os/) but being stuck on an old system is often just so limiting there's a bigger picture to work on.

You just need to install the compiler:
Code:
yum install gcc

IF you have to, then "yum install 'Development Tools'" might be a better option for getting started.

I have to agree with acid_kewpie. FC7 is ancient, and installing a compiler on it to meet a short-term need, is pointless. You're still left with a system that's too old to run most current software, and has a ton of security vulnerabilities in it.

Installing FC12 (or ANYTHING current), and installing the development packages/headers, will put it all out there. Even if not, you'll have online repos to work with...don't even know if there are any left for FC7

You may not be able to use "yum" directly.
Fedora 7 was moved to the old archive 20 months ago.

An /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo , may work with this baseurl
(Example i386)
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...thing/i386/os/

P.S. : The http://archive.kernel.org/ mentioned in post # 2
does not exist any more.
