install.sh cannot be found


When I go to execute the install.sh file in my directory it comes up with

linux:/usr/local/bin/pidgin-2.0.1 # install.sh
bash: install.sh: command not found


...??????

how about executing it with a preceding ./ ? i.e. ./install.sh

./install-sh: no input file specified.

it keeps saying that the file could not be found and I don't know what else to be coding in. I have just been doing the ./install-sh command

tried ./install-sh --help
????
might be a little useful hint to also read README or INSTALL files!
