Question instailing gdm on suse linux 9.1?

I can't seem to figure out how to get gdm to work on sue linux 9.1 personal downloaded cd. (I ftp installed windowmaker, gnome and gdm) currently using kdm. i want to ditch it because it WILL NOT show me a list of desktops it's kde or nothing. if you know how to fix this that would be good to cause i would like to playwith the windowmaker and gnome.
