I want to answer my phone with Linux

I am wondering if anyone is aware of software for Linux or a lead for software in general for the following use:

I want to put a modem in my desktop running Mandriva and connect my telephone line into it. Then when a phone call comes in it would ring on my desktop and I could use my headset to communicate.

Is there anything like this that exists?

NOTE: I do know that programs like Ekiga and other VOIP software but I want this to work off of my current home phone line.

Thanks,
Sean

dont know of such technology, I suppose you need your own hardware and software for such an idea.

But I do remember something similar, you are going to help me here.

Out of a vague memory when I was hooked on Cnettv, I remembered a usb dongle that had a phone line jack on it. It was in some sort of Conference where they showed weird gadgets like a usb spongebob camera of some sort. It was known for free long distance or something... very vague

Then just use the voip software to connect to that asterisk server you are running locally and add rules to ring your voip phone before going to voicemail.

In the old days when I had a voice modem, it shipped with Win s/w for, I think, doing this. I think it was called WinVoice or something.
