Unhappy I have an nfs mounted /home and 'adduser' fails to create a new user

Hello,

I have a dual processor machine with Red Hat 7.1 installed on it. Recently, using NFS, I had ported the /home directory to another Red Hat 9.0 system.

Everything is working fine with existing users and when I tried to add a new user, 'adduser' is not at all responding. I am in great trouble because of this and would like to get an immediate solution for this problem.

Regards,
Dipu

If you cd to /home can you create a new folder? ie:
mkdir /home/somefolder

Can you create users without trying to create home directories?

Isn't the command 'useradd' not 'adduser'?

I believe that Red Hat comes with a GUI tool for adding users as well. But of course that just runs the useradd command.

I would also check what david_ross said. It could be that you have read/write permissions on the NFS share, but not execute rights.

The problem is almost certainly some configuration problem on the server.
