Angry i cant install anything or get anything to work!!

hi... i installed mandrake last night and i cant seem to get any of the tar.gz i download to install properly... i always run into the same old errors... gtk not installed,, glib not installed,, GLIB_CONFIG path variable and PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable errors and stuff like that. this OS is very complicated... how will linux ever beat windows if the installation programs take hours to figure out?? i am logged in as root and i cant seem to get anything done... whenever i go to install (./configure) it always gets the cant find glib2.0 error, but its in my /usr/local/lib and its also in my /usr/lib. i get successful installations of all the wierd library thingys but when i try to put GTK in i get that PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable error. can anybody help me? i just feel like i cant get off the ground here cause the only things i have been able to install was the mozilla rpm installation.

Aha Ive had this problem before, When you installed mandrake did you install all the devlopment packs (tools) ?

You can install these stright from the desktop, goto "system settings / add remove programs" scroll down and add "Devlopment tools"

Then try and compile the tar.gz files again, it shoulld work

Let us know how you get on,
