Question I cannot run java in chromium or iceweasel

Yesterday, I installed debian 7.1 on my system and also installed chromium. Also, I installed Oracle java/JRE 7 from the tarball. (amd64/other linux). My java is in /usr/java/jre1.7.0_51. I made the symlink in the plugins directory.

Both Iceweasel and chromium do not detect my java jre. I searched intensively and the only solution is to go to the plugins tab and enable java there but I do not have a java plugin there. The flashplayer plugin is detected in an instant and works fine.

I have done this a couple of times before but never had problems with this. I am out of options now, is there someone who can get me moving again? Tia

Hi,

I always use openjdk so I'm not really familiar with using Oracle/Sun java. Is there a particular reason you can't use openjdk? If you really must persist with Sun/Oracle java, it seems the wiki could be helpful. See https://wiki.debian.org/JavaPackage and https://wiki.debian.org/Java/Sun.

HTH,

Evo2.

Unfortunately there is, I connect to an old site which for some reason only accepts oracle (or Sun) java.

But a friend helped me with the following site, my problem is solved. I agree that the licensing is too strict for something that is used all over the world. In windows and some other distro's there is no problem.

Thx EVO for replying
