How to use spotifyd?

I have been wanting to play Spotify through a CLI program, but I couldn't get mopidy to work with ncmpcpp.
Can I use spotifyd to play Spotify music through a CLI program? Specifically cmus?
Any advice is appreciated.

I found this. I seems to cover how to configure and use spotifyd; just scroll down a bit: https://github.com/Spotifyd/spotifyd

Full Disclosure: I don't nor will ever have any interest in using Spotify.

How did you install those two programs, which versions?
Which distro are you running this on, is it up-to-date?
What exact problems did you encounter?
