how to set sendmail to use a diferent port

my isp blocks port 25 and says to use 587 , can somone explain where i change this

i assume you can change this in /etc/services
i would leave 25 alone and just add something like
smtp-backdoor 587/tcp

then alter /etc/sendmail.cf
change
#O DaemonPortOptions=Name=MTA
to
O DaemonPortOptions=Name=MTA,Port=smtp-backdoor

i still wonder how that is going to help you unless your isp is rerouting its port 25 to communicate on 587.

if you have older sendmail it looks more like
#O DaemonPortOptions=Port=esmtp
and change it to
O DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp-backdoor

i couldn't figure out out to do it w/ sendmail.cf, but this works for me...

look at nbsmtp...
