how to restore a messed up /etc/profile?

Hi all,

I recently made some changes to /etc/profile. Now when I start a bash shell, I get a bunch of errors about commands not found. I was using gedit to modify the file, so the old version should be in /etc/profile~. The only commands that I have access to are those listed when you type "help". "cp", "mv", "more", etc are not available. i currenty cannot do anything with my system now because of this. what can i do? thanks for any help.

I figured out the solution on my own after a few minutes messing around on a working system. In case anyone ever runs into this problem, it would be good to know that all of the basic commands like "mv", "cp", etc are located in "/bin", so to restore the original version of my profile, all i needed to do was

Code:
/bin/mv /etc/profile~ /etc/profile
