how to recognise pattern in numbers


Does anybody know programs that can recognise up or down trends in sequences of numbers?
I am looking for something that I can use in scripts, command line tools.

This seems kind of vague.
Could you give us an example of what you mean?

I do think so. But I need more information about the numbers and sequences.
