how to patch wine


to play empire total war on ubuntu i need to patch wine according to this site: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18490

however i am new to linux and wine itself and dont know how to patch wine. could someone please explain to me how to do it?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to use the "patch" tool and his patch file against the WINE source code, then compile WINE and install it. This is a somewhat difficult process, and will be rather time consuming (last time I compiled WINE, it took a long time even on decent hardware).

Since you are new to Linux, I am guessing you have never had to build anything from source before. What distribution are you running?
