Question How to monitor I/O speed on optical media?

The iotop tool appears to show the percentage usage but not the speed of reads and writes to optical media. It only shows the speed on conventional block devices, meaning hard drives and flash memory.

Since I could not find a tool for monitoring I/O speed on optical media, I am asking here.

There is QpxTool, however, that is just a benchmarking tool for optical media, meaning it can not does not show the speed of other processes, and it was last updated in 2020 and 2012.

Can you find what speed it's running at in terms of 1x ... 25x or whatever? Programs like cdrecord seem to be able to do that. It's pathetically slow, however you measure it.

Have a look at iostat, part of the sysstat package.
