I got too much addicted to internet in my office,I want to get rid of it...I've tried pulling out LAN cable but after few days I found another one!!!!!

So I want to ask is there any internet lock software so that I can tell my colleague to lock internet on my pc.

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

The best thing to get in your case is a sound amount of self discipline , no offense. If you have root access on your machine then having your colleague put something in place on your computer will only be for a limited time effective. On the other hand if you don't have access to the firewall (assuming you have one in your office) or your router (assuming it's a type on which you can configure ACL) and your colleague or system administrator does, then I'd ask them to forbid access to the internet from your computer identifying it by MAC address.

Looking forward to your participation in the forums. Have fun with Linux.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi Eric
Thanks for ur quick reply...
well self discipline is not possible..so there is no other way to lock internet on host rather than locking it from router side?? and yes I have root permissions so is nearly impossible?? I got too much addicted...if I continue doing like this I'll be fired one day

In that case i would create a chain of changes to your computer so that when you would like to surf you have to unchange those changes.
Example: remove any web browser, flash and so on, and even change the ipv4 stack.

Hello,

Putting a solution on your computer while you have root access is trivial. You'll have to exercise self discipline not to try to disable or bypass the solution your colleague has put into place. The fastest way is to prohibit access using the firewall/router if your colleague has access to that, or ask your system administrator to do so. I suggest you get some self discipline, it isn't that hard once you can control yourself. And if you want to keep your job, as you mentioned yourself, I urge you not to lose time. If you know the system administrator you could ask him for a solution since he'll be the person best placed to offer you one taking into account that he knows your office network inside out.

Kind regards,

Eric
