how to get Terminal to start in current folder

can anyone tell me how to get the GNOME Terminal to start in the current folder.

I have tried making links to it in the folders I use but it still starts in my home folder.

It is a real pain having to do a load of cd commands to get to where I want to be and would prefer if I could create shortcuts like you can under Windows that sets the current directory to whatever the shortcut file is in.

thanks

In the launcher ("shortcut"), specify the command as gnome-terminal --working-directory=/whatever/directory/you/want
