How to convert AVI to DIVX?

Hi,

I'm using ffmpeg to convert my avi files to ipod readable format. I recently bought a standalone DIVX player but there are some avi format that I can't watch. Can someone tell me the command in ffmpeg to convert any avi file into a divx player that is readable by most of the stand alone players? If not, maybe you can suggest a program in Linux that can do that. By the way, I'm using Ubuntu 7.10. Thanks.

A gui program will actually be a front end for mencoder or ffmpeg or transcode.

There is no such thing as DivX for Linux. And DivX itself is nothing but one of many MPEG-4 codecs. However, some hardware players read the FourCC code from the beginning of a video file and refuse to play if it's not set to DivX. So before you do anything else search Google for FourCC changer.
