Is there another web site tu configure samba accesses on a majority windows-based network. I remember the last time I instaled linux, it didn't work properly (I couldn't see the files in others computers directories)
For samba, there should be swat setup on your system, it works to get samba running for most people. Open a web browser and type 127.0.0.1:901 which should bring up a configuration interface.
ProFTPd authenticates based on the local (system) users. You don't "share" directories. If you log in as "joe" over ftp, then you only can access folders that "joe" has access to.
Webmin can also edit samba config, but SWAT is the thing to use.
