How to add a windows application launched by wine to the menu?
I have some nice windows application installed by wine, but it's inconvenience to invoke it from the terminal. Therefore, i made a .desktop file for it(DVDFabDecrypter.desktop) and put it in /usr/share/applications/. However, i still dont see it in the gnome menu! Is there anything i have to do? This is the content of the desktop file:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=DVDFab Decrypter
Exec=wine /WinApps/DVDFab\ Decrypter/DVDFab\ Decrypter.exe
Type=Application;AudioVideo;
Comment=DVD decrypter
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/DVDFabDecrypter.xpm
GenericName[en_US]=DVDFab Decrypter
Terminal=false
Maybe running update_desktop_database would help? I know that caches the MIME types from desktop files, but it's possible that GNOME uses it to add .desktop files to menus? As you can probably tell, I don't know what I'm talking about that much, but it's worth a try.
Well, i see the word MIME somewhere but i dont know what it is, can you explain? Moreover, i notice that the file DVDFabDecrypter.desktop i created is just a text file which means it does not have the launcher tab in it's properties! Other desktop files has the laucher tab, so how can i made it become a launcher? i tried update-desktop-database as root but nothing happened.
Thanks for the suggestion
Thai
In that case, maybe you should make sure the permissions are set so it's executable and that it doesn't have a .txt extension (since it's recognized as a text file)? Sorry, that's all I can think of.
