How does one compile OpenOffice.org?

Hello,

I have a AMD64 machine with two processors. I'm new to 64 bit computing. So ... I wanted to install OpenOffice.org ... but I want a 64 bit version. Because there is not one available to download I grabbed the sources.

I'm used to just doing a:

./configure
make
make check
sudo make install

... however the sources do not have a ./configure script .... it's just a bunch of directories with sub directories that look similar to this:

CVS/
inc/
prj/
qa/
source/
test/
util/
workben/

Could someone tell me what the magic steps are to compile and install a program like this from source?

The Open Office site would be your best bet; try somewhere like http://documentation.openoffice.org/...guide2/2.x/en/

This may be useful as a learning exercise, but I doubt if it will give you any operational benefit. Office suites are not very often limited by processing speed.
