How does linux take care of bad blocks?

Hi all,

There are some bad blocks on my hard disk. If I don't manually mark those blocks off by the 'badblocks' command, what will the OS do? What will happen when someone writes files on those bad blocks? Will the OS mark bad blocks off automatically?

Thanks!

Doris

depends on whether you build the file system
with mkfs -c or not :)

I don't know what reiserfs does, though :}

Cheers,
Tink

i have a related question..

when fsck checks partitions and it passes, does it mean my hard disk is 'physically' ok?
(eg, no bad sectors..)

thank you
