How do you open Windows files--.exe, etc.--in Red Hat Linux Fedora Core 1?

How do you open Windows files--.exe, etc.--in Red Hat Linux Fedora Core 1? I have Fedora Core 1 installed on a Compaq. I have a cd-rom with various programs on it. It recognizes the cd on the desktop, but I am unable to open any of them. Being completely new to Linux, I am at a loss about what to do.

you cannot run windows apps on linux however you may be able to view the files - text files will open as normal etc etc.

vi filename this will open the file with the vi editor and you can read the text.

to get more info on vi/vim:
man vi
man vim

Hello,
a .exe file is a windows executable file, to run under linux you need to use a windows emulator such as Wine.

yes that's true - you can emulate windows if you really want to have that app on your system. Natively - windows executables will not run on linux thank goodness
