How do I install huawei 200 modem?

Yes I know their are forums on this but they not getting me anywhere.
I have a huawei e220 3G modem I downloaded divers but how do I install them
In the Huawei folder their are 4 files and 2 folders

Conf – folder containing these 3 files - huawei-e220 , wvdial-huawei.conf , huawei-e220.chat

Files – folder containing these 2 files - 99-huawei.rules , huawei-mobile.sh

Makefile – file
README – file
PROVIDERS – file
VERSION – file

I’ve viewed the files on ubuntu 8 and all they say is something about @echo/boot or something like that Not to sure what to do
I’ve tried on the terminal pppoeconf as one of the anther forums suggested but it did not work

All I need is to get the drivers set up

Thanks

Did you actually read the README? What does it say?

Yes I did and I did what it seed and it doesn’t work
This is a quote taken from the readme file………..

If you want to make a connection right after the modem is plugged in,
with this package, you can create a /root/.huawei-config file
with the following content:
--- 8< ---
wvdial --config /etc/wvdial-huawei.conf
--- >8 ---
or if you prefer
--- 8< ---
pppd call huawei-e220
--- >8 ---

This is the error I get wvdial the pppd Just says no file found or something like that

desktop:~$ wvdial --config /home/juvencio/Desktop/huawei/conf/wvdial-huawei.conf

I suggest you post exact error messages.

I've never used wvdial, so can't really help with this.

Are there any more instructions in the README file? There's a Makefile in the directory, so you're going to have to run make at some point. I think it would be better if you posted more of the README and told us about everything you've done.

I managed to get mine working on openSUSE without any complex instructions. All I did was plug the device into a Windows machine, took the connection details and then connected the device to openSUSE. It was attached to /dev/ttyUSB0, so I just configured KPPP with the connection details and I was good to go within minutes. I have also configured it with gnome-ppp (its in the Ubuntu repos) and it worked fine.

Ok I eventually got the modem to do something

Now it starts up with the wvdial hsdp set up
But the modem hangs up it gives me an error 16

I looked up the error 16 code in the pppd and it says modem hung up

Any ideas

Ps this is what I did in the terminal

sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

And it showed my modem

Then I typed

sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

It opened up and I added this info in to the file

# wvdial for Vodacom Data. Created by Tazz_tux
# Version 1.0

# Change Log:
#
# Added support for HSDPA.
# Added Headers and version control.

[Dialer Defaults]
Phone = *99***1#
Username = username
Password = password
Stupid Mode = 1
Dial Command = ATDT

[Dialer hsdpa]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800
Init2 = ATZ
Init3 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem

Then I typed after I unplugged the modem and reconnected it

wvdial hsdpa

and all worked exsept for the error 16

OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*99***1#
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*99***1#
CONNECT
--> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Wed Jul 9 21:07:25 2008
--> Pid of pppd: 7769

--> pppd: [06][08] [06][08] [06][08]
--> Disconnecting at Wed Jul 9 21:07:56 2008
--> The PPP daemon has died: A modem hung up the phone (exit code = 16)
--> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail.
--> Try again and look into /var/log/messages and the wvdial and pppd man pages for more information.
--> Auto Reconnect will be attempted in 5 seconds

This is my setup I use

sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

Once my modem (Huawei E169G) was recognised (and /dev/ttyUSB0 was created) then salutis-connect helped me get connected. Note you may have to install the zenity package as well.

These instructions are for debian / (k)ubuntu:

Code:
sudo echo deb http://repository.salutis.sk/production  ./  >> /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install salutis-connect
sudo apt-get install zenity
salutis-connect appears on your menu under "Internet". It is easy to use.
