I get a GUI login screen, that is good, but once I login, GNOME no longer starts. When I select GNOME safe mode, I get an error saying that the computer is unable to locate the GNOME installation. I would just like to be able to have the computer login to GNOME after login automatically.
OK, I DL'd and compiled, because source is what is on the GNOME page.
I am in some sort of limbo where I have a terminal window and FF, but NO DESKTOP
The commands that you wanted me to run, yeah, that wasn't really happening too well:
#xinit
Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.
I think that I need to create a symbolic link from somewhere to the GNOME install that may have been deleted when I accidentally uninstalled the desktop...
