How do I fix windows from linux?

OK, this is (sort of) a windows question but I hope somebody can help anyway.

I have a dual boot Debian/WinME system, I still need windows for a couple of apps. I installed a new monitor...LG L196WTQ widescreen...set up reasonable OK on Linux. Tried to set it up from the windows side...managed to set resolution too high, #$#@!#$ monitor just displays "Analog input out of range" message & I can't set it back 'cause now I have no monitor.

Tried to start windows in safe mode (hold down the ctrl key during boot) but apparently that only works if you have windows MBR, grub doesn't seem to recognize it. Boot disk no longer works ("invalid disk" error) and the original disks for the computer have no boot in safe mode option...only "reinstall all software" which is a real PITA.

Best solution would be to replace the video card with one which has a digital output but that is a) too expensive and b) computer has only the original onboard video and no replacement slot.

So:

Question 1. Where does windows (winME) set the video mode so I can edit it back to normal from Linux?

Question 2. How do I set grub so I have a windows-safe mode option?

Hope somebody can help.

Thanks

When Windoze first starts to boot, press F5 and you will get a selection menu of how to boot it. Safe mode is an option there.

I think you can get into the Windows menu from grub booting.

Boot PC. select Windows to boot and immediately start pressing F8 Key.

I think you need to be ready to do this the moment you select Windows from your grub boot menu.

You might be better running Virtualbox and installing windows under it. Then you don't have to re-boot to run your apps.

got into safe mode with ctrl-f5 & got it reset. Took about 6 restarts.

What a pain.

Another pain trying to install the LG driver which appears to only be available from some site which you have to "become a member" then page through about 10 pages of trash advert before you can d/l the driver. LG should be ashamed. (Monitor was an "open box special" from Future Shop & didn't come with the driver disk.)

More pain...the windows "add new driver" dialog freezes up so I can't install the proper driver anyway. Windows is such crap.

Enough rant. Gonna take an aspirin.

Thanks for your help.
