I said I made the text file not the actual script... I got it when searching on google for ways to enable surround sound.

My sounds working FINE when I'm setting it to my speakers! It's when I use 'duplicate' sometimes after using xine (if that's what is causing it) - this does not ALWAYS happen - it will say my device is in use; I need to be able to use 'duplicate' so I get 5.1 sound and not 2.1 sound.

Well it's solved AFAIK.

I deleted the asoundrc and made a new one in it's place (I didn't write this myself either):

pcm.dmixs51 {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm "hw:0,1"
rate 48000
channels 6
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_time 0
buffer_size 4096
}
}
pcm.duplicate {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmixs51"
slave.channels 6
route_policy duplicate
}

Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it working. I would say that your card isn't capable of full hardware sound mixing by the look of it. You shouldn't need to use an .asoundrc if the card is capable of this, but it works so that's ok.

Which output have you set xmms to use?

And if you're using gnome, is esd running? Have you told
xmms to use esd?

Cheers,
Tink

I have esd turned off. I haven't told XMMS to use esd. I have XMMS set to 'duplicate'.
