I installed the trial version of Turbo Print a while back and forgot about it before the trial period expired, but now when I try to reinstall it it won't let me. It re-installs just fine but is still locked.

I want to completely remove EVERYTHING it left behind in my system, so that I can reinstall the trial version and see if it works before buying it.

How can I do this?

I'm using Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon.

P.S., I plan to buy this software if it works, but I never gave them permission to leave crap behind in my system after uninstalling it.

I guess you cannot do that. I mean it is intentional, you cannot uninstall/reinstall the trial version and use it as if it were the full version.
Probably you can really completely uninstall it from your system, but it will still remember this trial period, because this information is stored on another host.

So far I've gone through and deleted everything that said Turboprint in it, and have tried getting the trial again by using a proxy. The proxy didn't make it happen, so there must be some files left over on my system.

It sounds to me as if you are asking us to help you violate license agreements at the least, and possibly break the law. I, for one, am NOT going to jail for you.

If you think it is a case of the software's publisher leaving something behind on your system, it is your option to either restore your system from a backup or do a fresh install to a spare drive.

But that probably is not the case. It probably already phoned home sending a snapshot of your hardware (like M$ does with windows activation).

May I ask what kind of printer you wish to use with this product? The product will never do better than the printer's capabilities allow.

It could be that you need to download a new version of the trial version. I have seen some trial versions that build in the expiration date, so reinstalling will not work.
Or there is some .TurboPrint directory in your home that was was not removed and that gets reused when you install again.

Anything they want. Something like fingerprint of your host. Probably if you fully wipe anything and reinstall the host (using even a different OS) they will still recognize the hardware. It is stored on their servers.
Microsoft made something similar, when you changed your hardware you lost your license (and need to validate your OS again).

When you use closed source software, you are at the mercy of the software developer.

Find an open source replacement, or make one. Or pay for it. And do what they want you to do.

If you like it and want to use it: pay for it!

I'm using a Canon Pixma PRO-200. Big mistake buying it. Most things that run with Windows can be run on Linux using Wine but the best I've been able to do with this one is print on letter size.

TurboPrint says on their website to make sure it works before buying because no refunds. Which I was not able to do. This is legitimately the first trial version of a program I've ever used where you couldn't re-install and try again. I don't touch anything from Microsoft, or anything that requires activation for that matter. This is idiotic, it doesn't come with full features so reinstalling it isn't like using it for free. I would happily pay if I could make sure it works, and wouldn't have even touched it if I knew it was going to be this much trouble.

I wouldn't be here if I could make one or find an open source replacement, and would have paid for it already if I could get it to work.

Do you know of any open source replacements???
How much would it cost to pay a programmer to make one???
Is anyone working on one that I could support or get to beta test???
I need to be able to use a Canon Pixma PRO-200 printer on Linux. Wine doesn't work, and this program worked for the most part except that it left borders, and I can't figure out how to get rid of the borders if I can't even use the trial version more than once.

It's all good, it's just frustrating.
I'm trying to get help but people keep thinking I'm trying to steal software. Every trial version of a program I've ever used could be reinstalled if it expired. This is the first that on ever invaded my privacy by fingerprinting my system. I wouldn't have even downloaded it in the first place if I knew it would do that.

So far the best I have is from another forum, they said to use Synaptic Package Manager to remove it, which I did, and then manually deleted the folder named Turboprint in my Home directory. Then I tried downloading again and got the same message saying it was expired.

At the end of the day, I know I could just take a laptop to the library or a fast food place with Wi-fi and get a fresh version, but it's the principle of the thing. No way I'm gonna spend money on it after they invade my privacy and I have to jump through so many hoops just to make sure I don't have spyware.

To Hel with these people. I am DONE with Turboprint AND Canon.
