hi I need help changing the ctrl/alt f1 f2 etc sequence..

Hi here is my situation. I have fedora 7 installed and recently installed vmware server in order to study linux networking (running centos). I want to be able to change into the ???virtual??? terminals from withing the vmware centos...but of course this sequence (ctrl/alt F key) is picked up be the host fedora 7....so is there any way to change these keystrokes in fedora so that I can still use some sequence to get to the terminals in fedora but am able to use the "normal" key sequence in the centos virtual machine and not have the keystrokes grabbed by fedora 7? I am guessing it has something to do with the /etc/inittab file (if it is possible at all) but I don't know what to do...thanks in advance...

Not sure if this is the solution
Code:
# These are the standard console login getties in multiuser mode:
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux
c2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty2 linux
c3:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty3 linux
c4:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty4 linux
c5:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty5 linux
c6:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty6 linux
The above lines define which consoles are available at a certain runlevel. Taking one of the numbers out (let's say 5) in the bold part makes console 1 unavailable in runlevel 5.

It might be that pressing <ctrl><alt><F1> will still work but that you only get a black screen; I did not test it.

PS taken from /etc/inittab on a slackware box.

I don’t know about vmware, but in qemu, you open up the qemu-console (that is CTRL+ALT+1), and type in “sendkey ctrl-alt-f2” or whatever. There must be something similar to the console for vmware.

Btw., I don’t think disabling a tty on your host will prevent your framebuffer from grabbing those keys.
