Help the n00b with MySQL (and to a lesser extent, PHP)!

You know you want to

Anyway, having finally got my FC3 box up and running, I discovered that the automatically installed version of MySQL is 3.23.58 - Which I really need to upgrade to 4.1.x...
Unfortunately, I don't have the first clue how to go about doing this, so can anyone help out the stupid n00b?

I'm also stuck as to what to do about this (when I'm updating php through yum):
Code:
You have enabled checking of packages via GPG keys. This is a good thing.
However, you do not have any GPG public keys installed. You need to download
the keys for packages you wish to install and install them.
How do I either disable the checking, or get a key?
I tried setting gpgcheck in /etc/yum.conf to 0, but it doesn't seem to notice, even after a 'service yum stop', and then a start again. I also tried specifying it with -c, but that didn't help either...

Thanks a lot for any help

Dan

Okay, so I found a solution:
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/sho...1&postcount=12

Unfortunately (and feel free to laugh at me here), I'm stuck on part 2:

2. Download development packages from redhat server (or mirrors)
+ For mysql : all mysql-*.rpm, perl-DBD-MySQL (to resolve dependency)
+ For php : all php*.rpm, db4*.rpm

I found the mysql & pearl package(s) at http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...6/Fedora/RPMS/ - Was this the right place? Having downloaded the ones I've been told to, I get this:

error: Failed dependencies:
libcrypto.so.5 is needed by mysql-4.1.10a-1.i386
libssl.so.5 is needed by mysql-4.1.10a-1.i386
libcrypto.so.5 is needed by mysql-server-4.1.10a-1.i386
libssl.so.5 is needed by mysql-server-4.1.10a-1.i386

Help is very much appreciated

Thanks for your time

Dan

if it's dependencies that are the problem, the easiest thing to do is to download the apt-get package for FC3, there is also a gui called (I think) synaptic. Then use that to download the latest mysql version. That will automatically resolve dependency issues by checking what is required and downloading any extra packages needed.
