The video card that was detected although the correct make is not PCI but AGP and wonder how I can/should change that. When running Xconfigurator there is no option to do so and wonder where and how I can?
Also I have Linux as part of a dual-boot system and wanted to change the text diplayed indicating the other OS and would like to know if, where and how this change can be actualized. TIA.
It's detected as pci because it is a device on the pci bus, not because its a pci card. This is normal in linux. As for changing the text for the other OS, what text do you want to change? If it's the label used for the other OS at boot you need to edit /etc/lilo.conf (don't forget to do "/sbin/lilo" after any changes to lilo.conf).
I am using GRUB and would ask if I have to follow the same steps and what exactly is meant by "don't forget to do "/sbin/lilo" after any changes to lilo.conf"? What has to be done there?
I don't know what file you need to edit for grub, hopefully someone here does and will post the info, or, you can try a search of the forum for grub. With lilo you have to run it after making changes to lilo.conf to write the changes or it won't work.
Look in the /boot/grub folder for a file named either grub.conf or menu.lst. Open the file in a text editor and look for the line that starts with title. Change the name to what you want. Save it and you're done. You don't have to run anything to make the change take effect.
