Help - Looking for guide to setup bittorrent and open the apropiate ports

hey,

well.. as the title says

more info.
i have ktorrent and azureus installen but azureus just won`t get his face green nomather what download i use. now this is probably because i didn`t opened port 6881 and that`s correct because i have NO IDEA where to open that thing.

So is there any good guide on opening ports on Fedora Core 6..?? better would be a guide that will guide me through all the steps of setting up a torrent client on linux and again i prefer Fedora Core 6.

i`m not a beginner in linux but i simply have never used port settings before.
there are a million guides for this in windows, but i can`t seem to find any guide for linux.

even this search in google: "open linux ports" or "iptables configuration" and things like it don`t give me the results i want and it`s getting frustrating.

the port range: 6800 till 6900 is forwarded to my pc so that should not be a problem.

.. downloading with ktorrent at this moment with JUST 20KB/s!! and i can get about 700KB/s!! and this is also why i absolutely hate bittorrent!! i`m getting better results in windows but still not above 150kb/s... now that`s also a unfair comparison because the thing i`m downloading now is the latest SabyonLinux which just has a dozen seeds and way more leechers.

Thanx in favor.

EDIT:://
what the **** now i really hate torrents!! i`m uploading MORE than i`m downloading upload speed is stable at where i set it as max (25kb/s) and the download is below 20kb/s.... i can`t believe how someone could invent such a stupid method.

The router is the one you setup for port forwarding - then you go into the bittorrent client and set it up accordingly. You might have go into the network settings and set the computer up with a static IP address. You can Google the routers brand name + bittorrent and you should find a page that tells you how...

First point: If you are up/down-loading anything then your port(s) are open, so relax about that.
Second point: If you have set your upload speed to a max of 25kb/s, you'll probably find your download speed is throttled back too - torrent is quite clever that way! So try setting your upload speed to the highest, wait, and you'll eventually see your download speed rise.

lol not possible. if i upload at my max (nearly 100KB/s) i can`t download a thing!! and i assume the up/dl ratio is 1 on 5 or 1 on 10.. so i should be able to download with 125 till 250kb with that assumption.

trying it out now to set the upload speed on unlimited (in the past it was not possible for me)

Don't forget that your up/down speed depends on who and what is on the other end of the line - not how fast of a connection you have.
