Help, Kate has seized control from Konqueror

Running Mandrake 10.1 with KDE 3.2.3. While trying to use Konqueror in filemanagement mode I keep having Kate try to start up and load the folder I select. This happens whether I'm just using the back button or if I click on a folder directly. I can type a folder name into the Location box and have it come up in Konqueror just fine but trying to select it with the mouse just ends up with Kate opening up and telling me that the "file could not be opened, it's not a normal file it's a folder". I also get a little Kate icon just to the bottom and right of my mouse after I click on the folder while Kate is starting up.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The icon is a KDE configuration (Témoin de démarrage in french, means Start's Witness)
Option are Cursor's witness. (Kde menu > System > Configuration > KDE Config (Control Center))

Now, to disable autostarting of Kate, You should check your Files associations (with applications)

In Konqueror, Configuration, Configure Konqueror. Check in "File Associations" Tab.
In All, All, see if Kate is there, under "Applications by order". And check @ Incorporation too..

.. No.. forget all these!

Just try first this: In konqueror, right click on a Folder. click on Property.

The line Type : Folder [X] <- here is a button

click on it.
It must be konqueror at the top of the "applications by order" list.

Hope this is where it bugs (Ps: I'm on Kde 3.3.2, so if there is no button on that line, or texts are not like I said, try to check by yourself something that matchs)

Yep, that was it alright. Don't know how Kate got associated with the folders but weirder things have happened. Thanks.
