Help getting vid card working (i810 intel)

ok, i'm trying to make a slax cd that works with full video card support for a laptop so i can play games on it, but i can't get the direct rendering working

what i have so far is i know that i must do a modprobe i810 after boot to load the vid card stuff, but that does not make direct rendering go on, and slax does correctly choose the right driver for X, so what else do i have to do?

What kind of games are you trying to play? If they are 3D...well, have fun! Intel's video cards suck in Linux. If possible, get an Nvidia card.

yea they are 3d (cube and enemy territory), and i can't get a nvidia because its a school laptop running XP and everything is locked, but not the BIOS so with slax i get games

i'm just kinda hoping that intels vid cards do better then software open GL, because that does suck

It's a bit tricky to get direct rendering to work with the i810. You should ensure to use the latest version of your X server (XFree86 or XOrg) or download the driver from the Intel hompage.

There was also an issue with the kernel agpgart module. On my system it didn't work with agpgart as a module. Once I compiled it into the kernel, everything was fine.

But the speed I could get from this 3D support was not at all amazing
