Adding to what's at
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?t=538677: while Vodei themselves call it the "Vodei Multimedia Processor, otherwise known as Vodei MP or just Vodei" which they find is "mandatory for the successful playback of multimedia (typically movies) that has been encoded using the Vodei encoder" and "Vodei makes possible the storage of higher quality content in smaller files and the faster transmission of multimedia files over file distribution networks"
http://forum.inmatrix.com/index.php?...ndpost&p=13616 remarks that "The file I have downloaded is 700 MB and 54 mins duration. movie size was 448x 336 pixels. MOST avi movies 54mins and 448x336 would generally be around 700MBs, so I dont see any improvement here." and another post (
http://forum.inmatrix.com/index.php?...ndpost&p=10227) defuses this "processor" as a lame wrapper. Robtex (or
http://vodei.wordpress.com/) shows Vodei.com shares its nameserver with a few other dubious domains one registered in Belize (pr0n, AFAIK) with the same tel/fax number as Vodei's owners. To wrap it up it: 0) "phones home", 1) costs money, 2) fscks up other installed SW and 3) no F/OSS converter is available nor does it run on Mac (like one would care if one can use Sorensen) or GNU/Linux.
