Handbrake currently in Mint Linux 18 reops.

I installed handbrake figuring that It will only transcode dvd movies into MKV extension. I ripped a dvd to test the speed of my Mint linux 18 cinnamon desktop. I transcoded the movie in 45 mins not bad for a i3 core. Once it was done I looked at the format it is not MKV now I could use that If I choose but My movie was transcoded into mp4v ok I am Thought I should mention this since for a while it was only mkv.

What version of handbrake is that? I've had to use the Stebbins PPA to date.

Ah, I see now that the MP4 support was re-introduced in the repo version supplied by Ubuntu 14.10. I had assumed that once a licensing issue, always a licensing issue, so didn't check the repo version when I upgraded from Mint 17.3 to 18, continuing to use the Stebbins PPA.

Thanks for the headsup, dave67!

It wasn't available though in the repo version in Ubuntu 14.04 and thus Mint 17.3.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/47330...e-in-handbrake

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=695225

The bug was solved in Ubuntu 14.10, and thus the subsequent Mint 18, but I wasn't aware of that until dave67 brought it to our attention.

The Mint 18 repo version is 0.10.2 (I don't mind being behind the curve).

The version on the Mint 17.3 repo is 0.9.9.

have you tried going into Prefs->advance->UnCheck Hide Advance Video Options ?? that will give you Advance Options.

I think I misread that link it tells you to first rip the DVD into a MVK file then how to resample it using handbrake to get it to a smaller size.

BUT also to get that stinky mp4v off your extedtion got a go to the same palace ->Prefs and UNcheck that option on gen tab

Your welcome all. This was a nice surprise to discover that. Where does one go to find such a fix in an application I am thinking launchpad?
