Okay, I installed GtkSpell awhile ago, and never really thought too much about why it didn't work with Gaim. Well, for some reason, I'd like to get the silly thing working. I definitely have it installed
checking for gtkspell-2.0 >= 2.0.2... Package gtkspell-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtkspell-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable

I know I built GtkSpell from source, and installed with Checkinstall (meaning it's installed in the default location), anyway I can make Gaim recognize it?
that wasn't what he asked now was it? where IS the .pc file? you might want to copy it to another location, specify the location directly to ./configure, or alter your pkgconfig setup.

Sorry, I didn't even notice the .pc part, kinda tired :\
There doesn't seem to be a .pc file, but, I did install GtkSpell, isn't that where the .pc file comes from?
