GTKPOD is form the darkside...

Kernel: 2.6.7 w/Firewire built into kernel. No modules.

http://gtkpod.sourceforge.net/README

I have read that readme 10+ times and I am still unable to get this thing working.

I was following the instructions per the 2.6.6 kernel. Upon executing the last command I get this:

[root@SIGS mnt]# ln -s /var/autofs/removable/ipod /mnt/ipod
ln: `/mnt/ipod': File exists

Whoever can point me along the correct path, please do so, I need it!

I don't even know where to start...so let me know the info ya need folks and thank you in advance!!!

You are trying to create a symbolic link to /mnt/ipod, but the command fails because /mnt/ipod already exists. Type
Code:
ls -l /mnt/ipod
If it doesn't point to /var/autofs/removable/ipod then
Code:
rm /mnt/ipod
and rerun your command
Code:
ln -s /var/autofs/removable/ipod /mnt/ipod

[e1@SIGS e1]$ ls -l /mnt/ipod
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Jun 28 13:27 /mnt/ipod -> /var/autofs/removable/ipod

It appears all is ready to go...but still nothing. Please don't leave me stranded

What command would allow me to see if my firewire ports are even active and working? Anything that can do that?

I have seen that guide before, the issue is that they are using kernel 2.4.x and no autofs.

Here are a few questions, perhaps I can get it going on my own with a little help from ally our smart lads.

How can I see if my Firewire ports are active? I am not using modules for them, they are compiled into kernel.

On this readme, it lists that this line should be inserted into /etc/auto.master

/var/autofs/removable /etc/auto.removable --timeout=2,sync,nodev,nosuid,gid=autofs,umask=007

Do I need to change the portion where it says gid=autofs to the actual GID of the the Firewire ports or does this need to be the group number I assigned it when I created the group autofs, which would then be 501 for instance? Also, the nosuid, should that be left alone or change to my user id which would be 500 or perhaps 501 to match autofs?

Thanks in Advance!!!
