Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0

Hello

I have problem with running wireshark
Code:
root@new-host:~# wireshark &
[1] 2677
root@new-host:~# No protocol specified

(wireshark:2677): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
^C
[1]+ Exit 1 wireshark
I remember that i once solved this problem with xhost +
but this not working any more.
Also i have problem with festival
Code:
root@new-host:~# festival --tts speech
No protocol specified
XOpenDisplay() failed
Pulseaudio: Connection refused
Are those problem related ?

You are trying to run them as root.
If root privs are required, use gksudo or such from your regular user.
