Strangely enough, the command is 'halt'.
All this is in the grub docs ('info grub')

If you are at the grub menu, no OS has been loaded. So the "grub entry to shutoff the computer" is the power-off button. It doesn't need a menu entry.

Thanks for your replies:

I will look into hakt command. I have used the switch off button on my laptop, this only makes the Laptop initiate GRUB slowly, and once Linux starts it does Checking FS for errors.

Thanks
AJ

If you are at the grub menu, and you have decided to turn off the computer:

Press one of the up/down arrow keys, as if to select something other than the default (this will stop grub timing out & booting the default, grub will just wait for you to press Return when you are happy with your selection).
Instead of pressing Return, press the off button (on my laptop, I think you have to hold it down for 3 sec for it to work).

Or, as bulliver says, look into the halt option for grub.

In the grub menu, look at those mini instructions. One of the options is to press c for command-line . While in the command-line, you could type help for a list of available commands. There you should see that halt is one of them.
Type: halt while in the command-line
