GRUB crc error

Hi

Because I intend to use Xen, I`m trying to substitute the lilo I have on my Slackware 10.2 by GRUB 0.97 (the last version for GRUB legacy).
However, whenever I try to boot the system using GRUB, I get a CRC error message just after GRUB starts loading the kernel. Lilo works without problems, and if I install this same GRUB into a floppy disk together with the kernel, then I manage to boot the system using GRUB.
I made I search here for this problem before making this post. One suggestion given was making a separate small partition and installing GRUB there. Since I have one already that is afterwards mounted under /boot, I tried to install grub there, but got the same error.
Any help will be apreciated.

We need to know, in detail, exactly what message you received...

The exact error message, after making the boot selection, "was"

Uncompressing Linux...

crc error

--Sytem Halted

I wonder how many messages with CRC error are possible but anyway here you have.
Oh, and I said "was" because the problem was solved in the most unexpected way possible! These days my machine had an upgrade of memory from 512M to 1G. I know many people will think I'm lying, but the fact is that, after doing that, GRUB simply started working as if it have never had any problem.
Thanks for the interest!
