GNOME - Logout lockup

I'm currently using Ubuntu 5.04 I have an issue with the logout capability of GNOME. If I choose to logout I get a lockup. I have to CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE in order to get past the locked screen and get a login prompt so I can restart or shutdown.

Any Idea's

Thanks
