It does have gcc 4.0.3 installed.. So i'm not sure what else my problem lies with this.

You sure you didn't inadvertantely upgrade to 4.1, that happened to me for about a week, I was wondering why nothing would compile...

what configure flags did you use to set this up ?
i think show entire configure command
basically just use --enable-add-ons
and not other stuff about threading to use NPTL

The gblic-2.4 INSTALL file specifically states gcc-3.4 or gcc-4.1 should be used to build it and gcc-4.1 is recommended. It also states if "make check" fails, the library built should not be used.

If you have a working system now, I would install gcc-3.4.6 or gcc-4.1.0 and re-build glibc-2.4 with the hope the test suite will run ok and then re-install glibc-2.4.

May the Force be with you.

Peace...
