git-svn

Hello,

I'm trying to make git-svn work on my slackware 12.2 box.
Seems like I have to install the Alien::SVN cpan module for that purpose, so I open "perl -MCPANPLUS -e shell" and I run "install Alien::SVN".

After configure, make and make install I get:

Code:
/bin/ginstall -c -d /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/i486-linux-thread-multi/Alien/SVN --prefix=/usr
/bin/ginstall: unrecognized option `--prefix=/usr'
Try `/bin/ginstall --help' for more information.
make: *** [install-fsmod-lib] Error 1
installing libs failed at inc/My/SVN/Builder.pm line 165.
*** Install log written to:
  /root/.cpanplus/install-logs/Alien-SVN-1.004006000-1230506177.log

Module 'Alien::SVN' installed successfully
No errors installing all modules
Obviously the problem resides in the fact that ginstall does not support the "--prefix" flag. I tried to mess up with the Makefile and remove that flag where apropiate, then manually run make install, which seemed to run without errors to the end, but when I run git-svn I still get various errors.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Linux Questions.

I wouldn't worry too much of that, subversion is already
installed in /usr , unless you said no to installing it.
See your package list : 'ls /var/log/packages > xxx.txt'

If it is about the 'svnlib*'s at all ???

Installing with cpan just would overwrite the already
installed 56 'svnlib*'s in /usr/lib/
The Slackware version is subversion-1.5.4 , the version
in Alien-SVN-1.4.6.0 is 1.4.6 .

Try if the application is working, then all is OK,
else ask again, there are other ways to install it all.

//ginstall: unrecognized option `--prefix=/usr'
Probably a bug in one of the perl build scripts. Make
or install usually don't have that option.

Good luck !
